Club turf rolls relatively true and at a stimp speed of approximately 6-10.  The speed is noticably slower and the roll can be less true when putting against the turf's grain.  Liken this turf to pool table felt in terms of its smooth, consistent surface and color.  This turf can be used outdoors where you can expect a life expectancy of 3-7 years under normal conditions.  When installed on a properly constructed base, Club turf drains adequately.  So you won't ever have to deal with standing water in outdoor applications, but this turf will remain wet for a considerable period after rain events.  That's because its short, consistent nap won't let that last little bit of water out (this is a surface tension phenomenon for you Physical Chemistry buffs).  Polypropylene is also not particularly well suited for direct sunlight applications because of its tendancy to fatique and mat when in direct sunlight or the weather is exceptionally hot.  Consequently Club turf is best suited for indoor or covered outdoor applications.  And for those applications our Club Turf is an unbeatably economical putting green turf.  Backyard Golf's Club Turf comes with a 3-year manufacturers warranty.

Tour Turf Characteristics

  • Yarn Material: 100% Nylon (texturized)
  • Pile Height: ~1/2"
  • Face Weight: 44 oz/yd
  • Color: Four Seasons (healthy Fescue grass green)
  • Rubberized Backing with drainage provisions
  • Stimp: 10 to 12 (depending on humidity levels)

Tour turf is specifically designed and manufactured as putting turf.  The turf's surface is double sheared so that it rolls true at a stimp speed of between 10 to 12 with no grain sensitivity as seen with the Club product.  This turf acts just like natural turf in that the speed is a function of humidity or dampness.  Higher humidity, slower speed.  Backyard Golf's turf research indicates that this nylon turf is the most consistent and best putting turf on the market today.  The high face weight and texturized yarn mean that it is not necessary to infill this turf (although you can infill it, if necessary, to satisfy your specific putting requirements).  Even with no infill there is enough energy absorption capacity to receive chip and pitch shots from up to about 10 yards with the same results that you would see at the course.  This turf drains rapidly and completely so you'll be putting within minutes of a rain storm.  It is designed for the rigors of outdoor environments, including direct sunlight, and we expect its life to be 10 to 12 years with normal use.  This turf will give you the ideal, maintenance free outdoor putting green.  Tour turf comes with a 3-year warranty.
